4 eSIM Use Cases in Enterprise Connectivity

4 eSIM Use Cases in Enterprise Connectivity
6:35
1.4 billion – that is how many eSIMs will be shipped by 2028.

This figure is not just a sign of technology’s popularity, but also an indication of its versatility and huge potential to elevate businesses around the world.

Within the domain of enterprise connectivity specifically, eSIM represents significant growth potential by enabling higher levels of operational efficiency. In this blog, we’ll explore the advantages of eSIM in enterprise connectivity through four concrete use cases.

Use Cases Table of Contents

The Advantages of eSIM For Your Business

eSIM is an embedded SIM technology that makes it possible for a user to download a SIM profile virtually, eliminating the use of small, often fragile physical SIM cards.
There are many ways in which this can improve connectivity solutions for enterprises and introduce new efficiencies in the business.

Increased security

eSIM provide enhanced security features in comparison with physical SIM. While the latter can easily be removed from a device and tampered with or even placed into a new device, eSIM are embedded and cannot be physically removed, making them harder to compromise. eSIMs can also be encrypted and remotely controlled or deactivated to avoid the enterprise’s network becoming affected if the eSIM owner falls victim to a cyber-attack.

Ease of use

eSIM simplifies the management of mobile devices within enterprises by empowering IT teams to manage and control devices remotely. eSIMs are also more sustainable as there is no shipping of physical SIMs required.

Flexibility

eSIM makes it easy for enterprises to scale the number of users up or down as required without having to wait for new physical SIM cards from their connectivity provider.

International connectivity

For any companies whose products or employees need to be connected worldwide, eSIM is the perfect solution, as it makes it easy for companies to download temporary international profiles so that devices can stay connected globally.

eSIM Use Cases in Enterprise Connectivity

eSIM has helped IoT and connectivity providers improve their offering in significant ways.
Let’s explore some of the success stories Telna’s eSIM has made possible.

Streamlining Global IoT Connectivity

eSIM represents immense value for global IoT projects, as it did for our customer, Console Connect.

A leading Network-as-a-Service provider, Console Connect required global coverage to support its customers’ IoT projects. To fulfil this need, they partnered with Telna.
Through our multi-IMSI network service, we significantly expanded global reach and provided reliable connectivity globally. Thanks to our API, connectivity services were rolled out fast and without any hassle for Console Connect – or disruption to their customers.

RESULT: The customer achieved connectivity at 70% lower latency and maximized network security with eSIM.

Ensuring Maximum Data Protection

Cyberthreats have long been a costly and frustrating issue for businesses. For our customer, a Connectivity Service Provider (CSP) specializing in industries where sensitive information is shared, evading cyberthreats with a high-security connection was pivotal.

In this case, eSIM allowed the customer to maximize security without compromising on the quality and reliability of services provided. By building on the customer’s existing security infrastructure, we ensured rapid integration and allowed the customer to monetize their services quickly. As well as giving access to voice, SMS, and data connection in more than 180 countries, we also provided end-to-end encryption to all the customer’s devices which handled sensitive data, ensuring that private information is protected even in the event of a security breach.

RESULT: The customer can benefit from uninterrupted connectivity via a secure cellular network and protect its reputation as a security-oriented CSP.

Supporting Digital Transformation in Retail

Retail is another key industry where eSIM can make a positive impact. As retailers expand beyond traditional operations, their connectivity requirements evolve. Point of sale (POS) systems are at the heart of this digital transformation process, facilitating transactions, inventory management, and sales tracking for digital or hybrid retailers.

Our customer, a POS provider, needed to provide reliable cellular connectivity to users of their platform to allow them to track sales and inventory with advanced retail software.

With eSIM, the customer could offer a reliable mobile network that could keep businesses together well beyond the reach of a standard Wi-Fi connection. With Telna’s global infrastructure, the customer could benefit from the world’s largest LTE-M footprint and ensure coverage for a variety of devices used by retailers. Our eSIM services were offered to the customer at a flexible rate, allowing them to keep costs manageable.

RESULT: The customer successfully established global connectivity and provided reliable services to retailers in the digital age without extortionate roaming costs.

Transforming Electric Charging Station Connectivity

Electric vehicle adoption is on the rise, creating a growing need for charging stations with global machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity. Our customer, an IoT provider, wanted to capitalize on the quickly developing market by providing connectivity to electric charging station manufacturers.

With an easily scalable eSIM solution, the customer benefitted from reliable global connectivity. The flexibility of eSIM allowed the customer to scale their business without negotiating further network agreements.

Considering that convenient and secure billing is a priority for users of electric vehicles, eSIM’s enhanced security features were also of great value to the client. We ensured security with multiple layers of protection from third-party access.

RESULT: The customer achieved global connectivity without making individual agreements with providers, allowing them to take advantage of the growing EV market.
